What you can do to become a global-oriented business professional:
• Business owners and managers should attend the UW-La Crosse Certified Global Professional Series (CGBP) and sit for the CGBP exam to earn the credential.
o Earning the CGBP provides a benchmark for competency in global commerce.
o The CGBP demonstrates an ability to conduct global business including: Global Business Management, Global Marketing, Supply Chain Management, and Trade Finance.
o For candidates experienced in international trade, the certification confirms that knowledge.
o For candidates just beginning, the CGBP establishes a professional development goal to ensure a full understanding of the profession.
o For companies, the CGBP assures that employees are able to practice global business at the professional level required in today’s competitive environment.
• Individuals who pass the CGBP exam will have successfully demonstrated proficiency in the tasks and knowledge areas typically associated with a practitioner who has worked in global trade for at least two years.
• Certification entails completion of the following two requirements:
o Passing the NASBITE CBGP exam, AND
o Completing a minimum of two years of college-level classes or employment in international trade for a minimum of two years

Four intensive days of high-quality content led by business practitioners who have earned their CGBP:


Day One: May 19
Part I: Introduction
Part II: Global Business Management & Marketing:
• Create a global mission statement
• Recognize ethical and cultural issues of global business
• Generate global and long-term strategic plans
• Determine viability of global ventures
• Identify internal and external legal liability issues
• Establish and maintain relationships with appropriate external organizations
• Evaluate internal and external environments
• Conduct and analyze research to determine market potential
• Develop market entrance strategies
• Construct and manage global marketing budgets and plans
• Implement and monitor global pricing strategies
• Analyze and formulate global distribution strategies
• Establish and manage global sales activities

Day Two: May 20
Part I: Continuation of Global Business Management & Marketing
Part II: Supply Chain Management:
• Optimize supply chain solutions
• Evaluate and select potential intermediaries
• Complete documents required to move products and services internationally
• Calculate true costs, benefits, and risks of proposed transactions
• Facilitate offshore procurement process


Day Three: May 21
Trade Finance:
• Establish financial costs and viability of potential markets
• Protect against foreign exchange risk
• Assess the commercial risk of buyers
• Determine appropriate methods and terms of payment
• Develop a sound financial plan
• Identify options for short-term, medium-term, and long-term financing

Day Four: May 22
CGBP Exam Review
• Review content from previous sections
• Discuss test preparation strategies
• Compete practice exam and discuss answers
• Resources provided in preparation for the CGBP exam:
o Trade resources and glossary listings
o The Global Entrepreneur, 2nd edition by Jim Foley
o Presentation and study materials
